KNEA encourages members to vote

Your VOTE CAN make a difference!

KNEA's mission is to promote quality public schools, strengthen the teaching profession and improve the well being of its members. One way to do that is to exercise your right and responsibility to vote.

Sometimes people think, "Why should I vote; one vote won't make any difference." On the contrary, a few votes often change the outcome of the election.

Here in Kansas in 1998, fewer than 20 votes in the Republican primary gave John Bacon the edge over Bill Neuenswander, helping to throw control of the Kansas State Board of Education to the conservative group that tossed our science standards into turmoil. It probably wouldn't be too hard to find more than enough educators who did not vote to change that election.

Also: Representative Bill Kassebaum won his primary in 2002 by 145 votes while Representative Cindy Neighbor won her race by only 39 votes! The authors of the Kassebaum-Neighbor school finance plan are in office because a mere 184 Kansans preferred them over the conservative incumbents they challenged!

Your vote could be the THE vote that makes the difference in who gets elected.
