February 26 Deadline to complete Teacher Working Conditions Survey online

Governor Kathleen Sebelius and KNEA are urging licensed educators to take the Teacher Working Conditions Survey online.  The deadline is February 26 and the survey can be found at http://www.kansastwc.org.  All KNEA members and non-members are invited to take the survey. For details, see your building representative, your UniServ director or your building principal.

Everyone should have received their invitation from Governor Sebelius to participate in the online survey by now. The goal is to see how teacher working conditions impact student learning conditions. Any building with a participation rate of 50% or more will receive the building results in the spring to help with school improvement efforts!

"Make sure your voice is heard," said KNEA President Christy Levings. "This project is an example of the strong alliances we are building in the education community in Kansas. KNEA's role is to encourage every licensed professional to complete the anonymous survey and to ensure the data is utilized appropriately."

Based on similar regional and statewide projects in North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, Arizona and South Carolina, Kansas NEA is asking every certified public school employee in the state to complete an anonymous survey of conditions that are highly correlated with student achievement and teacher retention. The Center for Teaching Quality conducted the first version of this project in North Carolina in 2002. Carolina's governor (Mike Easley) has used the data to advance policy initiatives and support funding to give schools the tools and resources they need.
