KNEA Fall Bargaining Conference is October 20, 2007

The KNEA Fall Bargaining Conference will be Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the KNEA Headquarters in Topeka.  Lunch will be provided.  Click here  to view a PDF of the conference flyer.

There is no charge for KNEA members, but registration is required .   Leaders are encouraged to bring the entire negotiating team.

“Better terms and conditions of teacher employment require effective teacher negotiating teams,” said Director of KNEA Negotiation, Research and Computer Technology, Wade Anderson. “This bargaining conference experience will create more effective teacher negotiating teams.”

Kansas State Department of Education Deputy Commissioner, Dale Dennis , will discuss school district finance for this year and the future during the General Session. 

Participants may select three topics from the following:

  • Getting Ready to Negotiate – A systematic approach to preparation for local association bargaining.
  • Argument Construction and Table Tactics – Improve the presentation of important teacher issues, perspectives and proposals.
  • Bargaining Campaigns – Laying the groundwork for success at the negotiation table.
  • Understanding and Designing Quality Compensation Schemes – Compensation theory for teacher negotiators.
  • Compacting Salary Schedules – Excel spreadsheet tools that can help negotiators develop and maintain improved salary schedules.
  • Bargaining Instructional Issues – Tips for negotiating Quality Public Schools Standards, Professional Development and NCLB issues.
  • Negotiating Health Insurance Issues – Develop a better understanding of the complexities of negotiating quality health insurance benefits.
  • Legal Questions and Answers – Discuss legal issues with KNEA General Counsel, David Schauner.
  • Interest Based Bargaining – Partnership in Collaboration-Kansas explains how to maximize the probability of finding agreements with the greatest overall value for both sides.
  • Community and Technical College Salaries and Benefits, Year II – Presentation of collected data for administrators and faculty of Kansas  Community and Technical Colleges .
  • USD Finance – The essentials of USD finance and budgeting for teacher negotiators.
