KNEA sending books
Colleagues helping colleagues

KNEA is sending hundreds of age-appropriate books to the schools in Seneca, Kansas, and Enterprise, Alabama, that were destroyed in March.

The K-8 school in Seneca, Kansas, was completely destroyed by fire.  All student and teacher materials were lost. A tornado ripped through Enterprise, destroying a high school and severely damaging the elementary school.

KNEA is sending high school books to Enterprise and elementary and middle school books to Seneca. The books are from the Reading Circle Catalog. KNEA members review newly published books and make recommendations by age and reading level to public and school libraries.

KNEA encourages members to help with the relief efforts for members and students in Kansas and in Alabama. "While lesson materials developed over a career are irreplaceable, we can help our colleagues as they begin to rebuild from scratch," said KNEA President Blake West.

Contributions to the fund set up to assist the school and the teachers in Seneca can be sent to:
Seneca Grade School Fund
United Bank and Trust
502 Main Street
Seneca, KS, 66538

To track KNEA member participation, please send an e-mail  confirming the date and content of the contribution. "We received a wonderful letter of thanks from the superintendent," West said. "A special thanks to Kevin Belt and our Konza UniServ colleagues who helped to kick off these relief efforts."
